NOVA NQ ORB
— NY AM Opening Range Breakout.
One strategy. One session. One contract per fire. The opening range of the New York AM session is mapped at 9:30 ET, and a confirmed breakout fires the order through to your prop account with a fixed $500 stop and $2,000 target.
Four reasons this edge survives.
Why opening range
The first 30 minutes after the cash open is where institutional positioning prints. The high and low of that window become the day's reference liquidity. Price either accepts those levels and ranges — or breaks and runs. We trade only the second case.
Why NY AM
NQ liquidity peaks 9:30–11:00 ET. Highest volume = tightest spreads = cleanest fills. Outside this window the same setup gives wider slippage, more wicks, and more failed breakouts. We don't trade what we can't measure.
Why confirmed close
A wick through the opening range is a fakeout 50% of the time. Waiting for a full 30-minute candle close beyond the boundary filters out the chop. Slower entry, dramatically higher hit rate.
Why fixed R
$500 risk every trade. No discretionary sizing, no scaling in, no averaging down. The expectancy comes from the strategy's edge, not from gambling around it. This is the only way prop-firm trailing drawdowns survive.
